Music from around the world

Listening to music is one of my favorite activities, whether it's while I'm driving, working out, or doing laundry.  Having been a musician for a while, I can appreciate many different styles of musical cultures.  I like to listen to a few different cultures of music, including those from Kazakhstan, Brazil, Japan, and Jamaica.

Music from Kazakhstan that I like is an artist named Dimash Qudaibergen.  "He is recognized as one of the greatest vocalists in the world, unrivalled in both range and technique.  Born into a family of professional musicians and a culture steeped in music, he began his formal training at the age of five.  He has a bachelor's degree in vocal performance and a master's in composition.  He has performed in 13 different languages and won some of the top awards available to musical artists in countries including the UAE, Kazakhstan, Japan, Russia, and China. (This was found in the Spotify about the artist section because I thought this was like the best way to summarize the artist's background.)  He was also named the singer of the people by the nation's President. This comes from central Asia.

Also, this song is in French, one of the 13 languages he can perform in.

Next, we will be diving into one of my favorite male singers, and arguably the technically best male singer in the world.  Gabriel Henrique, a 29-year-old Brazilian singer, rose to fame through social media, national competitions in Brazil, and also competing on America's Got Talent.  I'm not sure who originally wrote the song Eu Me Rendo because there are so many recordings or covers with the same name.  However, this Brazilian ballad is a beautiful song.   I chose the cover by Gabriel Henrique because the skills he displays rival some of the great singers like Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.  I found it interesting how it is similar to the style of American lyrical ballads, but obviously in Portuguese.  This is from South America.

Going back to Asia, a big form of entertainment in Japan is anime.  I actually really enjoy some of the anime that comes from Japan.  In these animated shows, they have intros that range in all sorts of styles of music from J-pop, rock, and ballads.  The similarity to rock music from America is really neat, but they put their own twist on it.  Some of my favorite songs from japan include Hunting for your dreams,  Bloody Stream ( its not a violent song just a weird title), and JOJO SONO CHINO SADAME.

Also another song I discovered recently is called Fly by the group Spectrum.  Its sort of a jazz/ funk song.  I really like the trumpets and drum parts used in the backround of the Japaneese singing.

The last music genre that interested me is traditional Jamaican music. I think traditional Jamaican music is cool because the instrument selection is so different from American music.  Also, it's cool how it's a mix of African, European, and Indigenous music.  In the late 1960s, reggae became the country's prominent music style, which is what I will be including in this post.  Don Carlos' Rivers of Babylon is a great old example of reggae music.  I picked this song because I really like the flow of the lyrics and also the instrumentation. Jamaica is part of North America, but it is separate from America.

I will always have an appreciation for all kinds of music from everywhere around the world.  I have had such a good time in researching some of these cultures, and just listening to different music from around the world.
